Ethics Skills Workshop - Monitoring one’s actions
Welcome to the “Ethics Skills” Workshop! I want to start with: "To everyone who sees NOT what the world IS but what it CAN BE!" We always interact with others starting with the family, neighbors, friends, school, then we go more broadly into other groups.
We go into church, religions, government. We have cultures, we have the whole world. And there are always two factors: One is acceptance by others or rejection by others.
And the better influence we have, the more acceptance we have. It depends if what we have and what we give, is what is needed and wanted by others. We always want to handle rejections, barriers, possible failures in the future, any counter intention that we have, either from ourselves or from others. We have the definition of ethics as: 1) The moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the conducting of an activity. 2) The branch of knowledge that deals with moral principles. Ethics has to do with monitoring our own actions. To do the things that are right and to avoid the things that are wrong. Ideally we should be directing our intention to maintain a specific purpose, and to achieve a specific goal.
To be successful we should avoid distractions, deviations and other intentions.
One of the problems that all religions face is the behavior of others. How to stop people from committing sins. How to handle unethical people. But it's not just religions. It's the same with schools, companies, government, civilizations. Basically any group interaction. Most people have problems with other people's behavior. Also there is a point where some people stop behaving well and they start to behave badly. Bad people think negative thoughts. Ethical people think on: "Long-term Survival Concepts."
They are in a situation... in a relationship... and the better they think: "Long Term" what is going to happen with a relationship, the more they're going to have control of their actions right now. So they see: Oh! this is what could happen, if I do this! Or this is the consequence of this. And this is what I want to achieve, and this is my purpose. So they are able to put more ethics in on their behavior. Sinful people normally can't see the consequences of their actions. They can't see much of the future survival. They have like... A short-term view of their survival. "I just want this right now!" "And I wish to have this now!" And "It doesn't matter what is going to happen, I want it now, now, now, yeah! But they don't see if this is really good for others too. So that's where ethical behavior can go off the rails. It is necessary to restrain those whims or those wishes that are just for oneself, and think of others, think of what is the greatest good for the majority of people.
So how do you control your ethics behavior? Well think of "Long-term Survival Concepts." Look at the purpose in that activity. The goal that you want to achieve and see what is the greatest good for all the people involved. And that will make you more successful and happier. All right all right my friends have a great day!
